Hirst Sees Home Development as Canvas for Eco Work of Art

Elizabeth Wood | Tue Feb 21 2012 | 0

Damien Hirst—noted as Britain’s richest living artist—is perhaps best known for his provocative and at times controversial art. The respected artist is turning his creative tendencies to funding and designing a home development in the city of Ilfracombe.

Five hundred homes will be built on the land, much of which is owned by Hirst himself. The homes are outfitted with wind turbines and solar panels—hidden inside the roof. Focus will also be placed on natural light and efficient insulation.

Tesco Rethinks Its Smart Labels

Elizabeth Wood | Mon Jan 30 2012 | 0

Back in 2008, UK-based supermarket chain Tesco launched a program to help customers be more aware of their purchases. The company placed labels on many of its products to indicate the carbon footprint of the item. From potatoes to light bulbs, approximately 500 items display these Carbon Trust-issued statistics.

However, the company is rethinking these efforts due to cost restraints. While they expected other retailers to step up to the challenge and fill in the gap, this has not been the case.

Though there are no plans to immediately cease label production, it looks like the company will be slowly “phasing out” the label over time. Read more at GreenBiz.
