ZeeWeed® Membrane Technology

GE’s ZeeWeed® Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane is a pressure-driven barrier to suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, endotoxins and other pathogens used to produce water with very high purity and low silt density. It can serve as a treatment for surface water, ground water, and biologically treated municipal effluent (membrane bioreactor and tertiary treatment). It can also serve as a pre-treatment before reverse osmosis and other membrane systems. GE’s ZeeWeed® Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane is available in an immersed vertical configuration (ZW500), an immersed horizontal configuration (ZW1000) and a pressurized vertical configuration (ZW1500).

Environmental Benefits

The global installed base of GE's ZeeWeed® ultrafiltration (UF) membrane 500, 1000 and 1500 systems has the capacity to enable the reuse of over 425 million gallons of water per day for a variety of uses, equivalent to the daily water consumption of 4.7 million average Americans.

Operating Benefits

GE's ZeeWeed® 500 membrane bioreactors (MBR) incorporate advanced membrane aeration controls that significantly reduce energy consumption compared to membranes without these controls. In one case study, a 2.5 million gallon per day plant using GE's ZeeWeed® 500 MBR decreased its annual energy costs by 21%, representing an overall cost reduction of 8.5% over a 20-year product lifetime.
