GE's RailEdge Movement Planner® software can increase railroad network velocity, improving asset utilization by increasing the productivity of existing infrastructure. In one representative example, a customer using GE's RailEdge Movement Planner® software increased average train velocity in a segment of its network by 2 mph or 10%. If used throughout the customer's network of over 20,000 miles, this would enable an increase in annual freight volume capacity by an equivalent of 200 locomotives without increasing actual fleet size. This would avoid an increase in diesel fuel consumption of 37 million gallons per year, equivalent to 370,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions, or the annual CO2 emissions of approximately 73,000 cars on US roads.
