GE's Locotrol™ system reduces locomotive fuel consumption by allowing more efficient distribution of locomotive power throughout the train. On one representative customer route, testing showed that a three-locomotive train using GE's Locotrol™ system and running under a typical duty cycle required 6% to 9% less fuel to operate, avoiding 400 to 580 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year compared to a train not using the Locotrol™ system, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of approximately 80 to 115 cars on U.S. roads.

On one representative customer route, testing showed that a three-locomotive train using GE's Locotrol™ system and running under a typical duty cycle can save 40,000 to 58,000 gallons of diesel fuel per year compared to a train not using GE's Locotrol™ system, equivalent to $117,000 to $169,000 in fuel costs annually, assuming a diesel fuel price of $2.90 per gallon.
