iBox

GE ‘s iBox platform is a next-generation monitoring and diagnostic platform for the oil and gas industry and is being designed to allow customers to continuously monitor and assess the health and performance of heavy duty and aeroderivative gas turbine trains and their driven equipment, such as compressors, generators, and pumps. Coupled with unique OEM rulepaks that indicate the likelihood of incipient failures or performance degradation, iBox can help avoid turbine trips, enable quick start ups, and maintain optimal operating conditions for GE’s turbo compressor trains.

Environmental Benefits

GE's iBox platform can help detect high-emission combustion modes in gas turbines and with the help of an exclusive OEM combustion rulepak can provide the customer with an automatic time window during which it is possible to transfer into a more efficient and lower-emission mode. In addition, the combustion rulepak allows the transfer of combustion modes to occur without reducing the load on the train, avoiding costly, high-emission gas flaring, as compared to a unit operating without an OEM monitoring and diagnostics system. This feature could enable a representative customer to avoid approximately 25 metric tons of NOx emissions per year per train, equivalent to the annual NOx emissions of 3000 passenger cars on US roads.

Operating Benefits

GE's iBox platform enables gas turbine trains to operate more efficiently than units which operate without an OEM monitoring and diagnostics system. For example, on a standard 32 MW FR5/2 gas turbine train, iBox can optimize the axial compressor water wash advisory, enabling at least a 1% system efficiency gain. This can help operators save 70,000 MMBtu of gas per year per unit, an annual savings of $280,000 per train at a natural gas price of $4 per MMBtu.
