Environmental Benefits

GE Healthcare’s PET/CT systems are designed to reduce electricity consumption for operation and ambient cooling by optimizing energy use based on a customer's usage profile. For customers actively pursuing energy efficiency strategies, using the innovative Energy Saving Mode software on an Optima PET/CT 560, Discovery PET/CT 610 or Discovery PET/CT 710 system during evenings and weekends when it is not in use can further reduce total system operating and site cooling electricity consumption, as well as associated grid CO2 emissions, by 31% or more compared to previous-generation GE systems without this capability.

Discovery PET/CT 710 and Discovery PET/CT 610 systems’ annual electricity consumption, including associated site cooling, is approximately:

• 49,000 kWh for a 16-slice configuration, about 2% less than the   previous-generation GE systems they replace.
• 56,100 kWh for a 64-slice configuration, about 27% less than the   previous-generation GE systems they replace.

Using the innovative Energy Saving Mode, the Discovery PET/CT 710 and Discovery PET/CT 610 systems can reduce annual electricity consumption by approximately:

• 14,700 kWh for a 16-slice configuration, for a total of 31% per   system per year compared to the previous-generation GE system.   This can avoid 8.7 metric tons of CO2 emissions on the US grid per   year, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 1 car on   US roads.
• 31,800 kWh for a 64-slice configuration, for a total of 68% per   system per year compared to the previous-generation GE system.   This can avoid 18.6 metric tons of CO2 emissions on the US grid   per year, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 3   cars on US roads.

Optima PET/CT 560 system and its associated site cooling systems consume approximately 49,000 kWh of electricity per year, about 2% less than the previous-generation GE systems they replace. Using the innovative Energy Saving Mode software, the Optima PET/CT 560 can reduce annual electricity consumption by an additional 14,700 kWh, for a total of 31% per system compared to the previous-generation GE system.

This could yield a total annual savings of approximately $5,400,   assuming an electricity price of $0.11 per kWh.
