Environmental Benefits

GE's Energy Smart® screw-in compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs use less electricity and result in lower CO2 emissions on the power grid compared to the incandescent bulbs they replace, and most have the same or greater lumens, a measure of brightness. If every U.S. household replaced just one 60-watt incandescent bulb with a GE 13-watt CFL, approximately 1.8 million metric tons of CO2 emissions would be avoided on the power grid per year, equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of 349,000 cars on U.S. roads.

Operating Benefits

GE's Energy Smart® screw-in compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs use less electricity than the incandescent bulbs they replace and most have the same or greater lumens, a measure of brightness. For example, replacing four 60-watt incandescent bulbs with GE 13-watt CFLs will save a typical household more than $206 in electricity costs over the 10,000 hour rated life of the CFL bulbs, assuming residential electricity price of $0.1065 per kWh.
