GenGard™ is an advanced water treatment technology for open recirculating cooling systems. GenGard™ treatment programs can be applied across the entire pH spectrum from neutral to alkaline and ensure uncompromising results even under the most stressful conditions. Unlike conventional treatments, GenGard™ provides the freedom to effectively respond to microbial upsets without a loss of deposition or corrosion control.

Environmental Benefits
GE’s GenGard™ cooling water treatment solutions containing AEC are designed to provide steel corrosion protection with less phosphate discharge than traditional phosphonate-based treatment programs. For example, using the GenGard™ GN8000 can reduce phosphate concentrations in a typical cooling tower water can be 4 ppm lower with AEC, than with a traditional phosphonate-based treatment program, which would enable a small cooling tower with a water discharge rate of 40 gpm to avoid the annual discharge of 200 lbs of phosphorus. This equates to the annual residential phosphorous discharge of over 120 people in the U.S.
Operating Benefits
GE’s GenGard™ cooling water treatment solutions containing AEC can prevent calcium carbonate deposition in cooling systems more effectively than traditional phosphonate-based treatments. This allows cooling tower operators to reduce blowdown, saving water and associated costs. For example, in the case of a particular food processor plant in the Midwest, U.S., GenGard™ GN8000 is projected to decrease water use from approximately 100 million gal/year to 75 million gal/year and decrease water discharge from 75 million gal/year to 40 million gal/year. These reductions could result in annual cost savings of more than $215,000 based on local municipal costs for water supply and discharge.
