Fuel & Carbon Solutions

GE Aviation’s Fuel and Carbon Services offers consulting solutions designed to help airlines optimize jet fuel use, reducing associated operating costs and CO2 emissions. This includes identifying and evaluating opportunities for optimization across flight operations, flight planning, and engineering and maintenance, via GE software-enabled statistical analysis of operational data coupled with functional expertise and evaluation. GE’s software also enables accurate monitoring of both fuel use and CO2 emissions to gauge the airline’s performance to goals, as well as to provide a means of credible emissions reporting to regulatory agencies.

Environmental Benefits

GE Aviation's Fuel and Carbon Services is designed to help a typical medium-size airline identify opportunities to optimize jet fuel use and reduce associated CO2 emissions, through improvements to airline operating policies, strategies, and procedures, including engine operations. For example, one typical medium-size airline customer, with a mixed fleet of 35 jet aircraft, was able to reduce its jet fuel consumption after implementing a subset of GEs recommendations, reducing fuel burn and associated CO2 emissions by 3.0%. If 35% of airlines' operations were able to realize 3% fuel savings through GE Aviation's Fuel and Carbon Services, the projected annual reduction in CO2 emissions would be 6.4 million metric tonnes.

Operating Benefits

GE Aviation's Fuel and Carbon Services is designed to help a typical medium-size airline identify opportunities to optimize jet fuel use and reduce associated operating costs, through improvements to airline operating policies, strategies, and procedures, including engine operations. For example, one typical medium-size airline customer, with a mixed fleet of 35 jet aircraft, was able to reduce its jet fuel consumption after implementing a subset of GE's recommendations, saving 3.0% of its jet fuel costs, or $24.7 million annually. If 35% of airlines' operations were able to realize 3% jet fuel savings through GE Aviation's Fuel and Carbon Services, the projected annual savings would be 670 million gallons, or $1.47 billion at $2.20 per gallon.
