Field Force Automation Software System

GE’s Field Force Automation (FFA) is a web-based solution that helps utilities and other companies to optimize their mobile service operations. Using optimization algorithms and street-level routing, FFA can reduce travel time to reach service locations, increasing field force utilization and reducing fuel consumption and associated CO2 emissions.

Environmental Benefits

GE's Field Force Automation (FFA) has been shown to significantly reduce travel times of service crews - depending on the road layout in the service area and prior route planning methods - through its route optimization engine. Although results may vary, one US gas utility with 27 crews previously using an in-house developed work management solution used FFA to reduce traveling time on one day from approximately 140 hours to 95 hours. Assuming just half this level of savings were to occur each day for an entire year, a utility with 1,000 field crews using FFA could reduce its service vehicle CO2 emissions by approximately 2,700 metric tons annually, equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 520 passenger vehicles on US roads.
