The CFM56-3 Advanced Upgrade modifies key components of the CFM56-3 engine to lower maintenance costs and improve fuel efficiency, which results in lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions and better operating performance for customers.
Environmental Benefits
CFM56 Tech Insertion aircraft engines produce on average 28 percent fewer NOx emissions than the engine lines they replace, the base CFM56-5B/P and -7B. If the over 3,500 aircraft in the current CFM56-5B/P and -7B powered fleets had their engines replaced with CFM56 Tech Insertion engines, the annual reduction in NOx emissions would be equivalent to avoiding the annual NOx emissions of approximately 675,000 passenger vehicles on U.S. roads.
Operating Benefits
The CFM56-3 Advanced Upgrade provides operating and maintenance costs benefits that can increase the residual value of the CFM56-3 engine. According to an independent appraisal by the International Bureau of Aviation, the residual value of a mature, mid-life CFM56-3 engine with the CFM56-3 Advanced Upgrade is approximately $332,000, or 10 percent higher than an engine in the same condition that has not been upgraded.
