GE’s 1033 Locomotive Emissions Kits were created to ensure that GE’s installed base of over 6,300 locomotives operating in the US are capable of meeting the new EPA requirements of Part 1033 Emissions Regulations. The kits are required for all Non-Tier, Tier 0, and Tier 1 locomotives at overhaul as of January 2010.
Environmental Benefits
Of the 6,300 Non-Tier, Tier 0, and Tier 1 locomotives in GE's installed base built between 1973 and 2005, 5,600 are scheduled for or subject to overhaul in the next eight years. If they have GE's 1033 Locomotive Emissions Kits installed according to the anticipated schedule and run under a typical duty cycle, total emissions in excess of 210,000 metric tons of NOx and 47,000 metric tons of particulate matter would be avoided over the next eight years.
Operating Benefits
GE’s 1033 Locomotive Emissions Kits allow customers to extend the life of their Non-Tier, Tier 0, and Tier 1 locomotives that were built between 1973 and 2005 and reduce NOx emissions by at least 22 percent and particulate matter by at least 50 percent compared to similar locomotives that have not been overhauled.
